Five hundred students at Perkins Bass Elementary School received new backpacks and much-needed school supplies to prepare them to head back to school this fall, all free of cost. This large donation is the culmination of months of fundraising coordinated by Chicago’s Kimpton Gray Hotel and local nonprofit, the Daisie Foundation. The effort raised over $25,000 in total–including $17,000 for supplies purchased and $3,000 in promotional support for the student carnival–as part of Kimpton Cares, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurant’s philanthropic volunteer organization. In addition to the backpack drive, local artist Jason Farley was on-site creating a new full-scale mural in the school, with the help of the students. The mural itself will be valued at over $5,000.
