Chicago Housing Authority Partnership 2021

Daisie Foundation distributes new clothes, accessories to 150 CHA residents

The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) partnered with Daisie Foundation, a non-profit that specializes in random acts of kindness, to distribute new clothes and accessories to 150 CHA residents Friday at the Charles A. Hayes Center.

The residents were CHA college students and participants of CHA workforce programs. There were 15 garment racks of clothes set up in the Charles Hayes Center’s Multi-Purpose Room.  Residents shopped 25 people at a time.

CHA CEO Tracey Scott was on hand.

“Thank you to Daisie Foundation for making this event possible during these challenging times,” CEO Scott said. “This distribution not only reintroduces a sense of normalcy to the lives of our residents, but it provides them the ability to shop for quality clothing in a COVID-safe environment. This event is an example of CHA investing in families to help them thrive.”

Julie Hightower, President of the Board at the Daisie Foundation, said: “The Daisie Foundation is proud to partner with the Chicago Housing Authority, providing support and clothing at a time when many are in need. Because of the generosity of Banana Republic and the Gap Foundation, we are able to give to those who benefit from the services of the CHA, further supporting the community in our home city of Chicago.”

Banana Republic donated the clothes to the Daisie Foundation. CHA is one of two organizations with which Daisie Foundation is partnering.

The distribution was sponsored by Springboard to Success (S2S), CHA‘s non-profit partner.

Residents shopped in a socially distant manner, spread out throughout the day.

Senaida Arteaga used her lunch break at Mt. Sinai Hospital to pick up some new clothes.

“Right away, I found my size, so I wouldn’t have to go searching, and I picked what I liked,” Arteaga said. “I’ve always liked these events and I’ve always taken advantage of them. I got some sweaters for me and a cute jacket for my daughter. And I got me a pair of shoes, which I needed.”
